　Microsoftが2018年9月公開の「Office 365 for Mac」でシステム要件をmacOS 10.12 Sierra以上に変更し、「Office 2016 for Mac」はメンテナンスモードになり2020年10月でサポートが終了すると発表しています。詳細は以下から。

　米Microsoftは現地時間2018年08月22日、同社のサポートページでオフィスアプリ「Office for Mac」についての今後の計画を発表し、来月(2018年09月)に公開されるサブスクリプション制の「Office 365 for Mac」アップデートで、システム要件を変更し、macOS 10.12 Sierra以降のmacOSが新機能などのアップデートを受け取ることが出来ると発表しています。

As of the Office 365 for Mac September 2018 update, macOS 10.12 or later is required to update to the new version of the Office client apps for Mac and receive new feature updates. Users who do not update to macOS 10.12 or later before the September update will still receive mainstream support and will be able to continue using their current version of Office 365 for Mac.

Office 2016 for Mac

　また、MicrosoftでOffice for Macの開発を担当しているErik Schwiebertさんによると、2018年09月の「Office 365 for Mac」アップデートは既にBeta版が公開されている「Office 2019 for Mac」となり、2015年09月に発売され現在まで新機能やセキュリティアップデートが提供されてきた「Office 2016 for Mac」はメンテナンスモードに移行し、

今後はサポートが終了する2020年10月13日までセキュリティアップデートのみを受け取る状態になるそうですが、システム要件はOS X 10.10 Yosemite以降と変わらないものの、新機能は全てOffice 2019 for Macの月例アップデートに同梱されるそうです。
