　AppleがApple Filing Protocolを将来のmacOSで廃止するのに伴い、「AirMac Extremeベースステーション」や「Time Capsule」でのTime Machineバックアップを非推奨とすると発表しています。詳細は以下から。

　Appleは現地時間2025年05月12日にリリースした「macOS 15.5 Sequoia (24E248)」において、同社が1980年代にMac OS 9のAppleShare用に開発したファイル共有プロトコル「Apple Filing Protocol (AFP/当時はAppleTalk Filing Protocol)」を将来のmacOSで廃止する計画を発表しましたが、

Appleは現地時間2025年06月10日、次期「macOS 26 Tahoe」を発表するとともに、AFPを利用した「AirMac/AirPort Extremeベースステーション」や「Time Capsule」でのTime Machineバックアップと「Time Machine over AFP」を非推奨とし、将来のバージョンのmacOSで非サポートになると発表しています。

今後廃止されるAirMac Extreme/Time CapsuleによるTime Machine

　将来のmacOSバージョンで非サポートとなるのは、2007年に発売され後継モデルが2013年まで販売されていた「AirPort* Extreme 802.11n ベースステーション (第1~4世代)」や、2008年に初代モデルが発売されたバックアップ用HDD搭載の「Time Capsule 802.11n (第1~4世代)」、

*日本での名称はAirMac。

2013年発売の「AirPort Extreme 802.11ac」と、最大3TBのHDDを搭載した「Time Capsule 802.11ac」によるTime Machineバックアップで、macOS 15.5 SequoiaとTime Capsule 802.11acで試してみたところ、以下の通り警告もなくTime Machineバックアップが作成できましたが、

次期macOS 26 Tahoeでは、AirMac ExtremeやTime CapsuleでTime Machineバックアップを作成していると「バックアップに推奨されていないディスク」という通知とともに、「次期メジャーリリースのmacOSでは、Time CapsuleディスクをTime Machineバックアップに使用することができなくなります。」という警告が出ると報告されているので、

少なくともmacOS 26 TahoeまではAirMac ExtremeやTime CapsuleでのTime Machineバックアップは可能なものの、2026年リリースのmacOS 27以降では非対応となる可能性が高いので、現在もAirMac ExtremeやTime Capsuleを利用されている方は、サードパーティ製NASでの「Time Machine over SMB」へ移行することをおすすめします。

Time Machine over AFPは、macOS 10.15 CatalinaまでのmacOSや一部のサードパーティNASがサポートしていますが、macOS 11 Big Sur以降は廃止されています。

　なお、AppleはAirMac Extreme/Time Capsule 802.11ac以外のAirMacシリーズ(11n)をハードウェアサービスを終了するオブソリート製品に追加しており、脆弱性に対するファームウェアアップデートも2019年にリリースされた「Firmware Update v7.9.1」以降提供されていません。
