macOS 12 Montereyアップグレード後にSanDiskのポータブルSSDがフォーマットできない/利用できなくなる不具合があるとしてSanDiskが調査しているそうです。詳細は以下から。
Appleが日本時間2021年10月26日にリリースした「macOS 12 Monterey」にはショートカットアプリやテキスト認識表示、AirPlay to Macなどの新機能が追加されていますが、このmacOS MontereyへアップグレードしたMacでSanDisk/Western Digital製のポータブルSSDがフォーマットできない、または利用できなくなる不具合が報告されています。

Formatting gets stuck at “Creating partition table”. Tried 2 different 4TB Extreme Portable V2 drives, same problem. Works fine on Big Sur. Contacted Apple and they said Sandisk needs to fix their firmware. Tried contacting SanDisk support but got frustrated with how bad it was and gave up pursuing the problem with them.

この不具合はNVMe SSD採用のSanDisk Extreme Portable SSDシリーズで発生しているようで、MontereyのMacに接続すると”This application only runs on a SanDisk flash drive.”というエラーが発生して利用できなくなる不具合はストレージを128-bit AES暗号で保護する「SanDiskSecureAccess」アプリとの互換性が原因のようですが、
macOS Montereyのディスクユーティリティでフォーマットできない不具合は、ユーザーがAppleに問い合わせたところSanDisk側がファームウェアを修正する必要がると回答された、現在SanDiskのテクニカルサポートチームが原因を調査しているそうなので、SanDiskのポータブルストレージをお使いの方は注意してください。

SanDiskブランドなどを展開する米Western Digitalは現地時間2021年12月14日、Appleが12月13日にリリースした「macOS 12.1 Monterey Build 21C52」で、Apple M1/M1Xを搭載したMac/iPadで外部ストレージがマウントされない/ディスクユーティリティでフォーマットできないといった不具合が解決されたと発表しています。
