AppleはiOS 9でWebブラウザ(Safari)からシームレスにアプリに移動する「Universal Links」機能を導入しましたが、Apple WebKitチームのエバンジェリストJonathan Davisさんによると、次期macOS 10.15 CatalinaではmacOSのSafariでもこの「Universal Links」がサポートされるそうです。

What’s New in Universal Links – Apple Developer
WWDC2019のセッション515「What’s New in Safari」によると、macOSのSafariで対応するUniversal LinksもiOSと同様にHTTPSサイトにJSONファイル”apple-app-site-association”を配置しアプリをUniversal Linksに対応しておくことで、
URL Schemeのように確認ダイアログを表示せずにシームレスにネイティブアプリに操作を切り替えられるそうなので、Project CatalystでiPadアプリをMacに移植しても利便性を下げずにすむそうです。
