　PolymerやWebRTCなどを利用して作られたAirDropと同様の機能がMac, iOS, Windows, Androidで利用できるAirDopクローンサービス「SnapDrop」が公開されています。詳細は以下から。

　SnapDropはRobin Linusさんが公開したAirDropの機能をWeb(HTML 5)ベースの技術で実現したサービスで、PolymerやWebRTC（WebSockets）、Node.jsを利用してオープンソースで開発されています。

　SnapDropはWebベースの技術を利用しているためブラウザを搭載したデバイスならiPhoneやMac, PC, Android問わず使うことが可能で、使い方はファイルを送受信したいデバイス双方で「snapdrop.net」をブラウザで開き、転送したいファイルを選択するだけで、デバイスのアイコンを長押しすることでテキストメッセージを送ることも出来ます。

　ペアリング後のファイル転送はP2P接続で行われるためセキュアで、同様のサービスにEmber.jsを利用したShareDropもあるので、異なるプラットフォーム間でファイルをやり取りしたい方は利用してみてください。

What about the connection? Is it a P2P-connection directly from device to device or is there any third-party-server?
It uses a P2P connection if WebRTC is supported by the browser. WebRTC needs a Signaling Server, but it is only used to establish a connection and is not involved in the file transfer.
