昨年、Daring FireballのJohn Gruberさん主催のポッドキャスト番組「The Talk Show」にAppleのSVP Phil Schiller氏とCraig Federighi氏がゲスト出演し、WWDCの基調講演で語れなかった事や新しい製品、ソフトウェアの情報を紹介していましたが、今年も基調講演後に開かれたThe Talk Show収録にこの2人がゲスト出演したそうです。
今年もThe Talk Showのチケットはすぐに売り切れたようですが、9to5MacのChance Millerさんが視聴し、その様子を以下の様にレポートしています。
プライバシー保護
まず、欧米では問題の多いユーザーのプライバシーについてですが、Appleは今までもプライバシー保護に重点を置いており、macOS High SierraやiOS 11に採用されるSafari 11のクロスサイトトラッキング防止機能などについて説明がされたようです。
Federighi noted that Apple continues to place a heavy focus on privacy, as evident by macOS High Sierra’s support for clearing tracking data and further protecting user information.

APFS
Appleは次期macOS High SierraでHFS+に代わる新しいファイルシステム「APFS」を導入しますが、iOSプラットフォームでは既にiOS 10.3でこのAPFSが採用された事についてFederighi氏は、Appleはユーザーに分からないようiOS 10.1およびiOS 10.2でAPFSの移行テストを行っていた事を明かし、そのおかげでiOS 10.3ではスムーズにAPFSへ移行できたというエピソードを語ったようです。
One interesting tidbit of information came from Federighi, who when asked about the rollout of Apple Filesystem on iOS explained that Apple had tested the transition with iOS 10.1 and iOS 10.2 in the background without the end user knowing. This helped Apple ensure that the transition would go smoothly when iOS 10.3 launched to the public.

iMac Pro
また、最大18-CoreのXeonプロセッサ、128GB ECCメモリ、Radeon Pro Vega 64、4TB SSDを搭載したiMac史上過去最高のパフォーマンスを誇る「iMac Pro」については、AppleはオールインワンのPCの市場にプロレベルのスペックを求めるユーザーがいるためiMac Proを開発し、AppleはこれからもMacを(プロダクトの)第一線に置くとコメントしたそうです。
Schiller concluded by reiterating Apple’s commitment to the Mac, saying it will “keep the mac at the forefront.”

iPad Pro
新しいiPad Proのセールスポイントは基調講演の中でも触れられた新しいディスプレイで、最大120HzというリフレッシュレートでゲームやApple Pencilを利用する際もブロックノイズなくスムーズに表示され、反射率1.8%反射防止コーティング、輝度600ニト、広色域P3などAppleのディスプレイチームは素晴らしい仕事をしていると賞賛しています。
While competitors may focus on resolution, our focus is on color depth, on refresh rate. These are where the really big wins are. Brightness, true tone display. I think our display team is doing unreal work.

Mac App Storeの将来
また、Schiller氏はiOS 11のApp Storeのアップデートの影で無視されてしまったMac App Storeについても触れ、始めにiOSのApp Storeの改善に取り組むことは正しく、我々はMac App Storeにも気を配り、投資しているとコメントしたそうです。
Schiller spoke on the future of the Mac App Store, as well, which came across as neglected following the massive overhaul to the iOS App Store in iOS 11.
