Tweetbotシリーズを発売しているTapbotsがTweetbot for Macをバージョン2.0.3にアップデートし、Twitterが8月12日付けで採用したダイレクトメッセージの文字数制限の撤廃で発生していた不具合を修正したそうです。
If you’ve checked your Direct Messages today, you may have noticed that something’s missing: the limitation of 140 characters. You can now chat on (and on) in a single Direct Message, and likely still have some characters left over.

新しいダイレクトメッセージ
新しいダイレクトメッセージ機能はTweetbot for Macがv2.0.2までダイレクトメッセージウィンドウに表示していた140文字の文字カウントを撤廃し、140文字以上のダイレクトメッセージを作成、送信できるようになっています。（左側は非公式のナイトテーマを使用しています）
