元Microsoftのエンジニアで現在はNotionでエンジニアリングマネージャーをされているFelix Riesebergさんは現地時間2025年02月22日、JavaScripを利用しブラウザ上でx86マシンを動作させることができるオープンソースのv86エミュレータとElectronを利用して開発しているWindows 95エミュレーター「Windows95」アプリを約2年ぶりにバージョン4.0.0へメジャーアップデートし、Internet Explorer 5.5を実装したと発表しています。

Windows95 v4.0.0では、2000年にリリースされたWindows MEのデフォルトブラウザとなっていたInternet Explorer 5.5が実装され、インターネットブラウジングが可能になった他、”http://my-computer”でホストMacやPCへのアクセスが可能になり、ローカルに保存してあるファイルやアプリ、ゲームを簡単にWindows 95へ転送することが可能になりました。
また、Windows95 v4.0.0では、WordやExcel、PowerPoint、FrontPageなどOffice 95アプリがインストール＆実行可能となっている他、FreeCallやHearts、Minesweeper、Solitaireに加えSpace Cadet Table(Space Pinball)がプレイ可能となっています。

Windows95アプリは2018年から開発が続けられており今回が3度目のメジャーアップデートですが、Mac版は今回もAppleの公証を取得しているので、気になる方は試してみてください。

- Host Access When you visit http://my-computer inside windows95, you’ll be able to browse your host system’s file system. This allows you to quickly move files into windows95, like additional games or apps you can download.

- Updated dependencies Everything is a little smoother and faster. Sound should be better, for instance.
