　x86 WindowsがApple M1チップ搭載のMacでクラッシュする問題など複数の不具合を修正した「UTM v2.1.2」がリリースされています。詳細は以下から。

　UTMはYuan Luさんらが開発している仮想化ソリューションで、オープンソースのCPUエミュレータQEMUを利用しIntel/Apple Silicon MacやiPhone/iPadデバイス上で仮想マシンを構築することができますが、このUTM v2.xで発生していた多くの不具合を修正した「UTM v2.1.2」がリリースされています。

Fixed QEMU issue causing crash running x86 Windows on M1 (thanks @kwhr0) (#2630)

(macOS) New global setting to (try to) only use performance cores: when set, if a VM does not manually specify a core count, instead of using the maximum number of cores on the system, UTM will use only the number of performance cores. Note this does not guarantee only the performance cores are used but only that the number of cores seen by the guest is lower. (#2557)

　UTM v2.1.2では、Apple M1チップ搭載のMacでx86 Windowsを実行するとアプリ(仮想マシン)がクラッシュするQEMUの不具合が修正されたほか、SPICEツールがインストールされると解像度が自動的に変更されてしまう不具合、シャットダウンした後に仮想マシンがクラッシュする不具合などが修正されています。

x86 OSが利用可能な仮想マシンはStandard PC (Q35 + ICH9, 2009)が最新です。

　また、今回のアップデートではApple M1チップのMacなど高効率コア(High-Efficiency Cores)とパフォーマンスコア(High-Performance Cores)の2種類のコアをもつプロセッサで、パフォーマンスコアのみを利用するというグローバル設定が追加されています。

おまけ

　UTM v2.1.2アップデート後に、MacBook Pro (M1, 13-inch, 2020)でx86 Windows 10をインストールしてみようとしましたが、インストール時に2回クラッシュし、1時間経過してもセットアップ画面が表示されない状態なので、x86 macOS on Apple Siliconのようにあまり実用的ではありません。
