　Appleは現地時間2019年01月06日、米ラスベガスで開催されるCES 2019に合わせてAirPlayのサポートページをアップデートし、サードパーティ製のスマートTVが今後macOS/iOSで利用されているビデオ＆オーディオ・ストリーミング機能「AirPlay 2」をサポートすると発表しています。

　また、Samsung Electronicsも同日プレスリリースを公開し、2019年に発売されるSamsungのスマートTVで他のAppleデバイスからのAirPlay 2ストリーミングのほか、iTunes MoviesおよびTV Showアプリが利用可能になり、ユーザーのiTunesライブラリを視聴したりiTunesサービスからコンテンツを購入することが可能になると発表しています。

SEOUL, KOREA – JANUARY 6, 2019 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.announced today it will offer iTunes Movies and TV Shows and Apple AirPlay 2 support on 2019 Samsung Smart TV models beginning this spring. Support on 2018 Samsung Smart TVs will be made available via firmware update. In an industry first, a new iTunes Movies and TV Shows app will debut only on Samsung Smart TVs in more than 100 countries. AirPlay 2 support will be available on Samsung Smart TVs in 190 countries worldwide.

　Appleは既にBOSEやSONOSなどのスピーカーメーカーやAmazonと協力してApple Musicに対応したスマート・スピーカーを発売していますが、今回の発表は今後TVメーカーとも協力してiTunes Moviesなどの動画サービスもサードパーティ製デバイスで利用できるようにするという方針の表明のようで、AppleのSVP Eddy CueはSamsungのプレスリリースの中で「SamsungのスマートTVでiTunesやAirPlay 2を体験していただけることを楽しみにしている」とコメントしています。

Samsungの場合は2018年製のスマートTVでもファームウェア・アップデートでこれらの機能が追加され、iTunes MovieとTV Showアプリは100ヶ国以上で、AirPlay 2は世界190ヶ国で販売されたSamsungのスマートTVで利用可能になるそうです。

おまけ

　AirPlay 2のサポートページにはスマートTVの再生や早送り/巻き戻し、音量調整などをAirPlay 2経由で行えるようになるほか、AirPlay 2とHomeKitを利用すればSiriを利用してiPhoneから特定の番組をテレビを指定して再生できるという記述もあるので、今後macOS 10.14.xやiOS 12.xでこれらの機能が追加されると思われます。
