ChatGPTなどを開発する米OpenAIは現地時間2025年10月23日、Mac用AIアシスタントSkyを開発するSoftware Applications Incorporatedを買収したと発表しています。

Skyはまだ正式リリース前のMac用AIアシスタントだったため、あまり知らない方も多いと思いますが、2015年にApple Design Awardを受賞したmacOS/iOS対応のオートメーション化アプリWorkflowを開発していたDeskConnect, Inc.の設立者で、2017年にAppleに買収され後は、現在のショートカットアプリの開発を担当されていたAri Weinsteinさんらが設立したSoftware Applications Incorporated(以下、SAI)が開発していたアプリで、

大規模言語モデルを利用し、Macの画面上で行われている作業を理解するとともに、ユーザーと自然な言語で対話し、執筆やプランニング、コーディング、日々のマネージメントの提案や実行を行ってくれるAIアシスタントで、Macのスクリプトやショートカット、MCP(Model Context Protocol)を利用してカスタマイズすることができるよう開発が進んでいました。
Sky開発チームには元AppleでmacOS UIやAppKitエンジニアを務めたPhil Zakharchenkoさんや、同じく元AppleのHuman Interface Designerを務めたCameron Burgessさんらが在籍していますが、
OpenAIとSAIのリリースによると、Ari Weinsteinさんを含めたSAIのSky開発チームのメンバーは全員OpenAIに移籍し、今後Skyの技術はChatGPTへ取り込まれるそうなので、Workflowから始まったmacOS/iOSのオートメーション化技術は、ショートカットを経てAIアシスタントChatGPTに組み込まれてるようです。
