　Python Software Foundationは現地時間2020年12月07日、10月にリリースした「Python 3.9.0」の初のメンテナンスリリースとなる「Python 3.9.1」をリリースし、同バージョンでmacOS 11 Big Surをサポートしたと発表しています。

3.9.1 is the first version of Python to support macOS 11 Big Sur. With Xcode 11 and later it is now possible to build “Universal 2” binaries which work on Apple Silicon. We are providing such an installer as the macos11.0 variant. This installer can be deployed back to older versions, tested down to OS X 10.9. As we are waiting for an updated version of pip, please consider the macos11.0 installer experimental.

　また、Python 3.9.1では新たにIntel(x86_64)とApple Silicon(arm64)のPythonバイナリを同梱した「macOS 64-bit universal2 installer」が用意され、Python LauncherもUniversal Binary化されApple Silicon Macのサポートが進んでいますが、現在は、パッケージマネージャ「pip」のアップデートを待っている段階のため、このインストーラーは実験的サポートとされているそうです。

　利用している方はほぼいないと思いますが、AppleはmacOS 11 Big Surにもレガシーなソフトウェアとの互換性を持たせるためとして、2020年にEOL(End of Life)となったPython 2.7.16を同梱してリリースしているので、Pythonを利用される方は、新しいPython 3.9.1のインストーラーやCommand Line ToolsやHomebrewなどのパッケージマネージャを利用して最新のPythonをインストールすることをお勧めします。
