Appleは現地時間9月9日、iTunesギフトカード詐欺に関するサポートページを新たに公開しています。”iTunes Gift Card Scams“によると、近年、税金や医療費, 光熱費などの支払いを電話で求めてくる一連の詐欺が発生しており、この請求にiTunesギフトカードでの支払い方法を勧められることがあるそうです。
Regardless of the reason for payment, the scam follows a certain formula: The victim receives a call instilling panic and urgency to make a payment by purchasing iTunes Gift Cards from the nearest retailer (convenience store, electronics retailer, etc.). After the cards have been purchased, the victim is asked to pay by sharing the 16-digit code on the back of the card with the caller over the phone.

電話を受けた被害者はパニックや切迫した状況に追い込まれ、最寄りのコンビニ等でiTunesギフトカードを購入し、詐欺師はそのギフトカードに記載されている16桁のデジタルコードを電話越しに聞いてくるそうですが、iTunesカードはiTunes StoreやApp StoreなどAppleのサービスのみにしか使えないため、この様な詐欺に遭われた場合は警察やFTCに連絡して欲しいとコメントしています。
t’s important to know that iTunes Gift Cards can be used ONLY to purchase goods and services on the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, or for an Apple Music membership. If you’re approached to use the cards for payment outside of the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, or Apple Music, you could very likely be the target of a scam and should immediately report it to your local police department as well as the FTC.

このサポートサイトはアメリカで発生している詐欺に対する注意勧告ですが、Appleはこの様な詐欺の被害にあわないため以下の事に注意するよう警告しています。
- iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks StoreおよびApple Musicメンバーシップの支払い以外にはiTunesギフトカードを使用しないで下さい。それ以外の支払いにiTunesギフトカードが使用されることはありません。
- iTunesギフトカードの裏面の番号を誰かに教えないでください。
- 詐欺の可能性がある場合は近くの警察やFTCにご連絡下さい。
